Select the string and play a sustained note. Use small adjustments and let the reading settle.

Detected note—Waiting for microphone
TargetC3130.8 Hz
Flat—Sharp

Play one note at a time in a quiet room. A4 reference: 440 Hz.

Targets use A4 = 440 Hz. The lower C string may need a clear, close microphone.

Understanding the result

The selected target compares the note with standard viola C3 G3 D4 A4 tuning at A4 = 440 Hz.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose C3, G3, D4 or A4.
  2. Bow or pluck the selected string.
  3. Adjust until the reading approaches zero cents.

Troubleshooting

  • Bow or pluck one isolated string and let the note settle.
  • Move closer for low C and reduce other resonances if the detected note jumps.

Browser and device limitations

The tuner cannot assess instrument setup or safe string tension, and low notes may be limited by the microphone.
